They Shoot Googles, Don't They?
The search engine seems to have run afoul of the Myanmar government, a military dictatorship with a history of blocking Internet access. According to posters on Planet Forums and an article from the Times of India, the Myanmar government has blocked access to several Google services. Gmail and Gtalk were banned June 22 and 23, according to users on Planet Forums. The users report there may be a few ways to work around the block. Representatives from Google have not returned requests for more information. The Google sites are apparently being blocked by Myanmar's largest ISP, Bagan Cybertech. The company has not returned a request for comment. |

Yes. That dictator government's only ISP, Bagan CyberTech, has blocked google talk. I am just wondering how did they know how to ban the voice data to transmit across their ISP firewall. Althouth they blocked the google talk, users can still chat by typing. So, if anybody knows how to pass that kind of blocking or firewall please send some information to me. APIs, scripts, etc, so that we can help these google users in Myanmar. Thar Cho

we are suffering a lot from this gmail ban in Myanmar. There might be somebody from Singapore or China helping Bagan Cybertech and military fool here with the software in doing such a stupid ban. Is there action or anything technology available for solving this problem. This will be great help to Myanmar citizen in opening access to outside world more freely.

Myanmar Man, are you currently in Myanmar? Are you using a proxy or accessing directly? Can you search via the main Google domain? Has there been any coverage of this in the local press? (not that there would be, I would think...)
