Google Preps Product Ads, Shows Us 'What's Here?' on Google Maps

Google has been working on new ads awhile, but the emergence of Bing as a fertile new e-commerce ground may be spurring the search giant to move faster. Meanwhile, a new "What's here?" feature in Google Maps is neat but needs work.

Google Gives Up on Print Ads... What Goes Next?

Google yesterday put the kibosh on its two-year-old program to sell ads in newspapers such as The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune and The San Jose Mercury News. Print advertising has been on the decline for years, gouged by online advertising. We're in a recession that is only worsening. Is anyone surprised that a Web services giant would excise a marginally important ad program?

Consumer Groups Hound FTC to Rein in Google, Mobile Web Ad Practices

The Center for Digital Democracy and the U.S. Public Interest Research Group asked the Federal Trade Commission to scrutinize and halt mobile advertising practices that may be violating the privacy of children, adolescents and other consumers. CDD and USPIRG cite comments from Google to bolster their case that not only is mobile advertising powerful, but enabling companies are aware of potential privacy threats.

Google TV Ads Target Couch Potatoes

The potential here is scary. If the Google TV Ads system drives even a small percentage of the millions of couch potatoes all over the world to do Internet searches, Google will pad its deep ad pockets even more. It will make mobile search ads look like a May shower.
