Google Broadband Move Is Latest Case of Google Creep

Google Feb. 11 said it will build and test ultra high-speed broadband networks in some locations across the U.S., hurtling Internet data at speeds of 1 gigabit per second, or more than 100 times faster than most residential broadband connections. Google Creep is my new term for the way Google is entering new markets, often with the stated goals to improve the way the Web works for users. Behind these statements of philanthropy lie the cool, precise model for making money from the Web.

Lawmakers Join AT&T in Google Voice-Network Neutrality Gripe

In a letter to the FCC, Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives said they find Google's position with Google Voice "ill conceived and unfair to our rural constituents." AT&T started something with Google Voice. It will be interesting to watch if and how it snowballs.

The Wall Street Journal Fly in Google's Net Neutrality Ointment

Google claims it is standing by its network neutrality claims despite a story from the Wall Street Journal. Even so, Google's do no evil mantra, juxtaposed by the company's prodigious wealth, strong search ad business model and control of such valuable machines as YouTube, has made it a fun target for my journalist peers to take down.
