Google: China Office? What China Office?

Philipp Lenssen at Google Blogoscoped points to a new map from Reporters Without Borders called The Internet Black Holes, which shows the countries where censorship breaks the Internet. The map is filled with green lines representing net traffic, but there are big black spots representing a few repressive countries, including China and Egypt.

Yes, that's the same China where Google, Yahoo and Microsoft all have offices. (You can see some photos of Google's office here). But when I look on Google's Web site, there's no mention of the Chinese office (or the Egyptian office) at all. Not sure why that is, given there's been so much to-do over Google's China presence and its attitudes toward censorship in the last year.

To be fair, I'm not suggesting some intentional attempt to beguile the casual public with its Jedi mind tricks--"these aren't the offices you're looking for"--and Google does list the offices on its jobs page. I just think it's odd there's no directory for all Google locations, and that Google doesn't list its locations in Egypt and China on that nice big map that shows how expansive it is.
