Google Reader Gets Personal (In a Good Way)

Google Reader launches "Popular items" and "Recommended sources," as two ways to find interesting content from all over the Internet. Google has also departed from sorting in default chronological order with a new "magic" sorting option that offers feed items based on personal usage and overall activity in Reader.

Google Reader Now Lets You Launch Content to Twitter, Facebook, Digg

Google Reader lets users post content to Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Blogger,Delicious, MySpace, Reddit and StumbleUpon. Users can also tell Reader to mark as read only stories that are older than a day, older than a week or older than two weeks.

Google now lets users choose to see "likes" for only those contacts they follow -- friends, family and colleagues instead of everyone in the world. What do you think about this feature? Should Google offer even more granular social controls for Reader? I say yes.

Google Reader Now More Social Even for the Antisocial

Maybe I just have a hard time with Reader being socialized when it's a fine work tool for me. I've already made peace with seeing "likes" at the tops of stories; I choose not to click on them. It's a time-waster for me. I'm going to read what I'm going to read without outside influence.
