Google AdMob Buy Beckons Answers from Microsoft, Yahoo

Should Google and AdMob combine, they will have earned $68 million in mobile ad sales to give them 24 percent of the market. Google's purchase of AdMob makes it incumbent on Microsoft and Yahoo to acquire some of the competition in order to keep up with Google, the new mobile ad market leader.

Yahoo Nov. 19 began indexing Twitter tweets, photos, and videos pertaining to breaking news stories on its Yahoo News Shortcut, which is displayed on our the company's search results page when users search for fresh news.

Yahoo Delicious Adds Real-Time Twitter Flavor to the Mix

The new Fresh Bookmarks tab on the Delicious home page shows users the most recently saved Delicious bookmarks that are popping on Twitter. If Web service providers keep aggregating and indexing Twitter tweets, Google will be forced to follow Bing, Delicious and the smaller players.

Microsoft, Yahoo Can Try, but They Can't Take Google's Search Crown

The potential to monetize search and ads versus Google exists, but how does anyone know by the time Microhoo gets around to taking Google's search ad share that Google won't have successfully penetrated other search ad markets, particularly mobile and display ads? Microsoft and Yahoo aren't standing still, but neither will Google, which will take this challenge seriously under its "competition is just a click away" approach.

Yahoo Video Dumbs Down Home Page Innovation for Non-Geeks

Yahoos explain how they separated metadata from markup and used machine-learned models and the like to retool the page. I wish Google would create some of these interesting videos. People would have a field day with commercials involving programmers, some of whom are celebrities in the high-tech world.

Yahoo's New Home Page Trumps My Yahoo, iGoogle Pages in Simplicity

What Yahoo has done is take the Web's go-to destinations and make them accessible from its front door. Ideally, it's a super social portal that would serve as a user's starting point. But I'm still not giving up my iGoogle page.
