Get Your Google Android-based T-Mobile G2 Pics
It was just before Christmas when nary a high-tech news mouse was stirring except for reports of an alleged T-Mobile G2 smartphone, the follow-up to the carrier's G1 based on Google's Android mobile operating system. Myth or reality? We didn't know, but thanks to Gizmodo we have what is, again allegedly, pictures of the G2, which as widely reported seems to be keyboard free. This device definitely has a 3.2 megapixel camera, which is like 3x the size of the Webcam on my new Asus EEE PC. Yes, I drank the netbook Kool-Aid and it is good. This G2 comes in white, which is ghastly to me, but it makes for better viewing in grainy photos than black for sure. Perhaps this is the phone that will give iPhone lovers a Linux-based alternative? As everyone is reporting, lots of people dislike the G1 because, with the slideout keyboard and touchscreen, it doesn't seem to know if it wants to be the iPhone or the BlackBerry. The G2 would clearly make it more iPhone-ish. Gizmodo says we're to expect this device in mid-May, which is a delay of months over the original reports that had the G2 arriving in January and then April. I noted then how such a device would anger G1 users for coming so soon after the G1. I wonder: Will people still be angry if this G2 does come in May? That six- or seven-month gap is an eternity on the Web, and may make up for the failed Kogan Agora launch. Based on these pics, and the previously reported specs (VGA camera for video calling), would you buy a G2? Why or why not? |

if i've learned nothing else, it's never buy a new gadget when it first comes out. wait til all the bugs are worked out and buy the 2nd or 3rd version. so, yes, i have t-mobile and will probably get the g2 when my current contract ends.

Yes, the media lemmings have started their march to the edge of nonsense and are all saying how marvelous a non-keyboard phone is---which is malarkey. The days of the real keyboard are over--not due to tech advance, but because they are too expensive to make. The reason I own and like the G1 is because it is a cross between the iPhone and the BlackBerry. The keyboard is essential. The touchscreen is essential.

I have to admit I was looking forward to having a keyboard, however I have not heard about some of the other things that will be important for a direct competition with the iphone. If you want to grab the ipod gen it will need a mini audio jack. The pics don't show the vga cam that we were all looking forward to either. But most of all I know that t-mobile owns the rights to the name g2 and g3 so I'm hoping a cdma version will come out under a different name. This thing on Sprints WiMax 4g network would ROCK!

The lack of a real keyboard is a deal breaker. I would have no interest.

The reason I like the G1 is because it has both the touchscreen and the slide out keyboard. Without the slide out keyboard, the G2 is not for me - the keyboard is the deal MAKER in my eyes. AND Bluetooth support for applications. If they get BOTH of those in one device, then I will buy one. Otherwise, I will stick with my Blackberry.

The keyboard in combination with the touch screen is *the* killer feature of the G1.

I have a G1 and I like the kybd/touchscreen combo. I don't think the removal of the real kybd is a good idea....it makes it unique. I love my G1 as is pretty much. Not that there aren't things that could be improved. But the kybd/touchscreen combo isn't one of them.

I love my G1 Keyboard and touch screen combo. I just wish the screen were a little bit bigger. The trackball is great too.

can't wait to see tmobile G2. I think g2 would stay top of the line for many years, as we do not have any other device in USA as professional as g2.
but, I wish htc would have provided voice and video over IP, as well, voice commmand . or we might add those softwear to g2 as g2 is android base and there should not be any problem to add those softwears.
I also suggest , the HTC provide USB2 socket to next generation of G2, may be in G3.
also, there should be some where some services in android website ,so that people could register their device and receive softwear support , such ad downloading all kind of ms products to ther device, using USB2 connection
or,
HTC might still have time to provide/add voice commmand feature to G2, before releasing the device.
but I recommend softwear support in android website , just for those using G2, or G3, or G4
songs and movies , and tag reading and visiting card recognition must/should be also added to G2/g3
