Perks du Soleil: Fun-Loving Google Named Best Place to Work

Google offers the best perks, the most fun work atmosphere, and is the overall best place to work according to an article from Fortune magazine.

The article offers a great overview of the Googleplex lifestyle, but most of the details -- free food, PlayStation games, pets and scooters -- won't be new to veteran Google watchers. There's also a nice snapshot of Google stats, including the fact that 1,145,000 people apply to work at the Googleplex per year.

For those of you who dig a good quiz, take a quiz on your knowledge of Google trivia. Sample question: How many gourmet cafeterias does Google have at its Mountain View headquarters? I scored 30/60 on the quiz (sigh), but I never was good at the whole testing thing. A better question would be, "What's the square root of a magazine fluff piece?"

Google employees have been much in the news lately. First Aaron Schwartz wrote this mini-screed about how Google infantilizes employees. O Googlers, Where Art Thou? from the San Francisco Chronicle talks about what pre-IPO Xooglers are working on these days. And Googlers Mean Gold for Golden State, in from the AP, covers how several execs at the company are filing outsized returns this year.

This is all very heartwarming. I think we still have open slots for articles on "Google Saves Cat Stuck in Tree" and "Google Sends AdWords Manna from Heaven." Any takers? Bueller?
