Google took the step many assumed it would and opened an iGoogle sandbox for developers to help them build richer gadgets for the home page. This is the start of Google's new social network.

MIA: Facebook, Microsoft From OpenSocial

So, here is what we know from today's OpenSocial news. Yahoo has joined OpenSocial and forged the OpenSocial Foundation with Google and MySpace. Facebook is not joining, and Microsoft is on the fence. Some questions left unanswered in the wake of today's conference call...

Maybe Yahoo Should Stay Away from OpenSocial

If Yahoo joins OpenSocial, it could be the worst thing to happen to the fledgling group, which is on the verge of signing up new members and watching MySpace, Orkut and Hi5 launch platforms based on the spec.
