Google's UFO Doodle Mystery Much Ado About Nothing

What's with all of this coverage about the UFO doodle on Google?

It's tops on Google Blog Search Tech section Sunday. Twenty-eight blog posts on it! (soon to be 29):

Here are some of the stories:

Does this shed some light on a profound strategy from the leading search engine? Will it lead to anything other than the conclusion that people are fascinated by aliens and unexplained mysteries?

Maybe I'm not seeing this right, but honestly, who cares? I realize this is Google and I myself can write about features that seem like minutiae in the grand scheme of things ... but this is a Google Doodle, for heaven's sake!

OK, the fact that I capitalize Google Doodle (Google does) probably doesn't do much for my argument. You might also argue I can't complain about others' minutiae when I cover some minutiae myself.

Fine, I'm not arguing anymore. Just had to vent. Hopefully, I'm providing a public service for all of you X-Files fans by aggregating the links, and hopefully the truth is out there somewhere.

Tom :

We should google alien or life in the universe, not search for it.

Dylan :

I don't see why you really had to write this... people just wanted to have some fun is all. I think this just shows how immature you are.

Dylan:

ROFL. I'm immature because I questioned the necessity to blog about a UFO doodle on Google's home page? How Lone Gunmen of you!

Hans :

The subject of UAP (UFO) is a thoroughly legitimate topic. Perhaps you might take the time to review the works of Dr. Jaques Vallee before dismissing this profound subject. Space is rather large, and too frequently too much larger than the common imagination. One must deliberately isolate the quackery from the intelligent and scientific. Dr. Vallee is internationally known for his generally flawless scientific approach to this subject. You might also have a look at Geipan. And by all means, please continue to exercise critical-thinking, though do it properly.

Scott :

There are some folks really craving the wacky and nutty. I thought this was a great article on how many crazy news outlets are clammorong for a news story to make a buck.

Funny stuff! Keep on writing.

ROFL? Really?

Another jerkoff getting paid to write garbage blog posts with misleading titles.

Aaron:

Profound.

To Hans and everyone else who believe in aliens:

I'm not arguing about the existence, or lack thereof, of extraterrestrials.

I just pointed out that 30 blog posts on a Google doodle is a bit much. I realize it's a holiday weekend and all, but why don't we wait until Google decides to reveal this mystery instead of speculating with all of this talk of memes, code, the Exeter UFO Festival and H.G. Wells.

Chris :

Google offered a clue on its Twitter page, adding the message “1.12.12 25.15.21.18 15 1.18.5 2.5.12.15.14.7 20.15 21.19″.

Swap those numbers for the corresponding letters of the alphabet and you get “All your O are belong to us”, which is a spin off of the 1991 "All your base are belong to us" line which came to light in the poorly translated Japanese video game, Zero Wing.

tony :

Chirs is right. It's the Zero Wing 20th anniversaries. Now maybe yall can chill out and get a life.

Well I have been stokcpiling o's for just such an occasion as this, so no worries Gogle, i can send you one of mine, your brand is safe. (i also have a few a,e i and u's' in stock if any other vowels get abducted from anywhere else.

The Retard :

I'm going to go out on a limb, and jump since I'm a bit mentally challanged ...I say a UFO stole that O from go_gle and placed it in a Chr"O"me building. This is where 2012 and Nibula came and B.Obama turned into the Antichrist on 9/9/09 turned upside down = 666 ...hahahA.... That UFO took the O and placed it in Google "CHROME" ...get it ...get it? ....

Clint Boulton:

Would you have by chance internet-stalked me to find a blog account of mine and by chance commented on a post of mine to insult me?

Or was that a random internet user reading your blog who decided to take revenge on me for my distasteful comment?

I'd much rather it have been the former, but the latter would be interesting if a bit creepy.

Aaron:

I've no idea what you're referring to. I had to check back to see your comment.
